India's largest TV and streaming company, formed by merging Reliance's Viacom18 with Disney's Star India.
Mumbai, India · founded 2024 · jiostar.com
What JioStar does
JioStar was created in November 2024 when Reliance Industries merged its media business, Viacom18, with Disney's Star India. Reliance controls it and Disney holds a minority stake. It owns more than 100 TV channels and the JioHotstar streaming service, plus rights to cricket's IPL and other major sports.
For Indian advertisers it is the single biggest route to TV and streaming audiences, especially during cricket, when ad demand peaks.
How it makes money
TV and streaming advertising (heavily concentrated around live sports), subscriptions, and distribution fees.
Where it meets invalid traffic
Live-sports streaming draws huge programmatic demand, where CTV fraud and inflated reach claims are checked by buyers and third-party measurement.
