What Tencent does

Tencent runs WeChat, China's everything-app for messaging, payments and mini-programs, plus QQ, Tencent Video and a huge games business. Its ad arm sells placements in WeChat Moments, official accounts, mini-programs and video.

Because so much of Chinese daily life runs through WeChat, Tencent sits on a vast pool of logged-in, first-party data, making it one of the world's largest walled gardens.

How it makes money

Games and value-added services, fintech and business services, and marketing services (advertising) across its apps.

Where it meets invalid traffic

Polices fake accounts and ad fraud within its ecosystem; outside verification of its inventory is limited.
