What Taboola does
Taboola powers the grids of sponsored stories and recommended articles at the bottom of many news sites. Advertisers pay when people click, and publishers get a share. It also runs Yahoo's native advertising under a long-term exclusive deal signed in 2023.
Its newer Realize platform pitches performance advertising beyond recommendation widgets, and Deeper Dive brings AI answers onto publisher sites.
How it makes money
Advertisers pay per click; Taboola keeps the difference after paying publishers a revenue share (reported revenue is gross, ex-TAC is the net figure, see Revenue ex-TAC).
Where it meets invalid traffic
Pay-per-click content recommendation widget units attract bot clicks and search arbitrage-style traffic buying, so Taboola filters invalid clicks and vets publishers.
