What Outbrain (now Teads) does
Outbrain built one of the first content-recommendation networks, placing "recommended for you" links on publisher sites. For years it was Taboola's closest rival.
In February 2025 it completed its acquisition of video ad company Teads and renamed the combined company Teads, so the Outbrain brand has been retired. See the Teads entry for the listed company (TEAD).
How it makes money
Advertisers paid per click on recommendation units, with a revenue share paid to publishers (now within Teads).
Where it meets invalid traffic
Recommendation click traffic has long been filtered for invalid clicks and low-quality arbitrage sources.
