Vizio
US smart-TV maker whose ad and data platform was bought by Walmart in 2024.
Irvine, California, USA · founded 2002 · vizio.com
What Vizio does
Vizio makes affordable smart TVs, and like Roku it earns much of its profit from ads and viewing data through its SmartCast operating system and WatchFree+ free streaming service. ACR technology on its TVs knows what is on screen.
Walmart completed its acquisition of Vizio in December 2024, pairing TV ads with Walmart's shopper data.
How it makes money
TV sales plus platform revenue from advertising and data (now within Walmart).
Where it meets invalid traffic
Device-level signals help authenticate real TVs; spoofing of smart-TV devices is a common CTV fraud tactic.
