EU court adviser says AI training on web content could be lawful under three conditions
· 54m ago · Originally reported by PPC Land
An advocate general at the EU Court of Justice has outlined conditions under which AI developers could lawfully train models on copyrighted web content: respecting robots.txt opt-outs, excluding pirate sites, and demonstrating measures to prevent memorisation of training data. It remains to be seen whether the Court will issue a definitive ruling on AI training itself.
Why it matters
This opinion could shape how AI companies access web content across Europe, setting precedents for copyright, opt-outs and data use that affect publishers and anyone whose content trains AI models.
